The City of Groveland has selected a longtime member of the Groveland Police Department to serve as the city's next police chief.
Lt. Sammy Anderson has been promoted to lead the Groveland Police Department after spending the past 15 years serving the Groveland community. Anderson brings 23 years of overall law enforcement experience to the position and most recently served as GPD's Special Operations Lieutenant.
The city announced Anderson's appointment Thursday, October 1, following a review of the department and conversations with GPD personnel.
A Chief From Within the Department
According to the City of Groveland, the decision to promote from within was strongly influenced by feedback from members of the Police Department.
Fire Chief Kevin Carroll, who recently became the city's permanent Public Safety Director, spent several weeks conducting individual interviews with GPD employees. He also completed a SWOT analysis and recommendations report examining the department's operations. Groveland, FL
One of the clearest themes to emerge from those conversations was a preference among department employees for the next police chief to come from within GPD.
Anderson's career follows that path.
He has worked his way through the ranks of the department during his 15 years with the city, most recently overseeing special operations.

For Groveland, Anderson's appointment represents a move toward maintaining continuity within the Police Department while giving a longtime department member the opportunity to lead.
With 15 years of experience serving Groveland and a total of 23 years in law enforcement, Anderson enters the position with extensive familiarity with the community and the department he will now lead.
